Wow….what a difference a day makes! The rain video is from inside my son’s tent yesterday morning… it was crazy hard rain with the great blowing wind.
When it calmed down, we chose to go off the trail for a day because we realized our portable charging banks had failed (due to wet, cold weather) and it would be irresponsible to head into the desolate part of the trail without charged phones. Our dear personal trail angel, Sam, came to pick us up at the trailhead but was unable to reach us because of the damage to the forestry roads from rain. We had to hike several miles to reach her.
We ate, bathed, washed clothes, and slept in beds! Amazing comforts. Today we are back on the trail in beautiful North Carolina, my home state. It is supposed to snow tonight.
We had to jump 52 miles ahead because Drew has to be picked up Saturday to go home to this sweet wife, 2 adorable girls, and job responsibilities. The forestry roads in Georgia are clearly unpredictable so this jump ensures his ability to get out on time. I will return to finish those 52 miles in September after I summit Mt. Katahdin in Maine. That means I will actually complete my journey in North Carolina….how fitting!.
