My day began with a delicious breakfast of coffee and oatmeal with almond butter. We left Siler Bald Shelter late morning and hiked out a half a mile to get back on the AT. We soon came to Siler Bald summit and hiked up and back down which added another half a mile to our day.
It was a very steep and difficult hike but well worth the effort as we could see mountains for miles in every direction! The rest of the day was fairly uneventful with some nice ups and downs on the mountain. But, the last half mile before we arrived at Wayah Bald Shelter was a bit rough. But, we made it in time to set up camp, get water, and eat supper before the sunset. It is supposed to get in the low 30s tonight and there will be quite a strong wind. We are hunkering down in our tents and sleeping bags to stay warm for the night. It has been another beautiful day in the North Carolina mountains!
