I have finally begun my incredible journey! I am so excited. I am also thankful to Drew for hiking a couple of weeks with me to fine tune the gear and training. Let the adventure begin!
On Day 1, we got a late start from Springer Mountain at about 1:30. It was an 8.4 miles day and we arrived in the dark at our first campsite. Everything went smoothly for dinner and then we turned in early and during the night if you can Terrain hard! It was very cold.
So, the next morning, Day 2 we took Camp down in the rain and cold. Our tents and rain gear worked as it was supposed to and we stayed dry. The least mountain we climbed that day went over 1000 feet up on only 1 mile. ….a very difficult climb for me. We decided to camp on top….. a very windy and cold night but, again, our gear worked GREAT.
On Day 3 we hike 9.1 miles and slept in a rock quarry near the road. The only problem was the loud party the locals had in the nearby parking lot. But, we are and rested well.
Day 4 was 7.5 miles that were many ups and downs and beautiful! Ended by a stream early, set up camp, did laundry, and ate a good meal. Loading up with water to carry over Blood Mountain tomorrow as there isn’t any up there.
